Small Business Saturday is almost here – November 25! – and as we get closer to celebrating all the local, loyal (and likely family-owned) business owners who work so hard to keep us happy, I’d like to take a moment to talk about why this event is so important.
As of 2010, 2.7 million Canadians were self-employed. As of just a year prior – 2009 – 86% of Canadian exporters were small businesses. Together they exported sixty-eight billion dollars, or 25% of Canada’s total export value. One of the most surprising and amazing statistics I discovered is that according to the Business Development Bank of Canada, small businesses make up a whopping 98.2% of all businesses in Canada.
These businesses are an important part of the Canadian economy; let’s show our support for the Canadian families that own these companies by shopping with them – and help them as they continue to do great things for our economy.
My family and I are truly grateful for all our loyal Georgetown Yarn customers. So as a show of our gratitude: we are going to turn Small Business Saturday into a big party for you!
Michelle M. from will be here from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. – and she is bringing presents! The first 20 people to arrive will receive a free gift bag that includes some amazing gifts. I know what they are but if I were to tell you they would have to kill me.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all bright and early on Saturday, November 25.
